Manage Channels

CHANNELS are one of the core concepts of scheduling content in the SmarterSign system. Playlists are set on these channels and the screens are set to watch these channels. There are two types of channels in the SmarterSign system; Standard and Advanced. The following provides the details of how to control each of these:

Creating a Standard Schedule

The following steps will guide you through creating and editing a standard channel:

  1. Click on the MANAGE CHANNELS button in the upper left of the SCHEDULE section
  2. Click on the ADD CHANNEL button
  3. Provide a CHANNEL NAME for your channel. Make it descriptive and unique so that you know what the channel is
  4. Select a RESOLUTION for your channel. You can either select a resolution CURRENTLY ON YOUR NETWORK or one from the OTHER RESOLUTIONS list.
  5. Click the CREATE button to add your new channel. Now you can start adding playlists to this channel

Creating an ADVANCED SCHEDULE

The following steps will guide you through creating and editing a standard channel:

  1. Follow the steps above to create a STANDARD SCHEDULE but now click on the check box to ENABLE ADVANCED SCHEDULE
  2. Two new options will appear that will allow you to set the number of slots on your schedule and the default duration of each slot.

    You can always change the default duration and add and remove slots after you have created the channel. Changing the default duration will be done in the upper right hand corner of the SCHEDULE window.

  3. Click the CREATE button to add your new channel. Now you can start adding playlists to this channel

Manage Channel Settings

Once you have created a channel you can now edit the channel settings. This will allow you to determine key functionality for the channel. Manage Channel Settings

  • NAME: Change the name of your channel
  • DEFAULT PROGRAM: This is the where you can select the program that will play when nothing is scheduled. If you do not schedule anything here you will see the SmarterSign logo with a "No Content Scheduled" message

    Pro Tip: You can also set this from the upper left hand corner of the main schedule window.

  • INTERACTIVE PROGRAM: This is the PROGRAM that will be displayed when you click anywhere on the screen in an interactive application with a touch screen
  • INTERACTIVE TIMEOUT: This is how many seconds the application will stay in Interactive Mode before going back to the previously scheduled content

You will also see a listing of the SCREENS CURRENTLY WATCHING THIS CHANNEL. This can be helpful to understand where the channel is being viewed on your network
