Network & Internet Requirements

SmarterSign transfers data over the Internet from the SmarterSign Manager Web based tools to the SmarterSign Player for display on your screens. The requirements for this connection are fairly straight forward for most customers. For some customers with highly restrictive networks you may need to work with your IT organization to allow the system to work properly.

Internet Connectivity

The SmarterSign system does not use IP addresses for connecting Player Licenses to your SmarterSign account. The only requirement is that the Player is able to access the Internet and communicate with the SmarterSign servers and resources.

Bandwidth Requirements

Bandwidth requirements greatly depend on the type of content your displaying on your digital signage. For video intensive usage the bandwidth requirements will be higher. For most digital signage networks the bandwidth requirement is minimal.

Connection Types

SmarterSign supports any way you can get to the Internet:

  • Wired Ethernet (recommended for stability)
  • Wi-Fi
  • 4G/5G cellular (might be restrictive for video intensive applications)

Network Configuration

The following ports should be open for outbound traffic:

  • TCP 80 (HTTP)
  • TCP 443 (HTTPS)

Are you connected?

Checking to see if your SmarterSign Players are connected to the Internet and communicating properly can be done directly within the SmarterSign software. On the HOME screen under the MY DIGITAL SIGNS section you will see a STATUS for each of your Players. If the status is green then you are connected properly.
